The John Dickson Carr Internet SocietyIt is presumptuous of me to undertake this task (especially since I have a web site to plug and am very opinionated -- also don't want to spend too many hours moderating it). On the other hand, this could be a good way to encourage readers of Carr, and potential ones -- Publishers take note! Reissue these books! Revive the radio shows he did and put them on National Public Radio! Producers on BBC/ITV/A&E/PBS: Do a TV series! -- and bring him back up into the popularity he deserves as the best of the Golden Age of Detection writers. Why make this a web site rather than a discussion group? For one thing, it will allow contributors to upload their own reviews, graphics, whatever, in HTML format, with their own designs etc. For another, it will allow an editor (me) to get rid of all those "'happy face' gee-whiz wasnt that a grate bokk" messages. Another reason is that I will host all this stuff on my own web site, yes, free exposure! You will have to register to this site do that, but doesn't everything require that sort of thing these days? [Bulletin Board is open to anybody, including those surf-ad people who browse bulletin boards on the web and add junk notices about their products indiscrimately -- it's hopeless trying to control bulletin boards.] Please, please send me or post on the Bulletin Board any suggestions you might have about improving, changing, or adding features to this web site. (I'll even alter that sickly green color that appears quite a lot -- getting sick of it myself.) I must apologize for scavenging my own previously written JDC web site for information to load up the data base with capsule reviews of the books, also for various comments about the detectives, and other miscellaneous contents of this site. A Note on the Navigation functions:
Members is the membership area, which allows more functions (sign-in required)s Web Links is a place where anybody can add Internet links to the site Newsgroups lists discussion groups similar to this Bulletin Board is the public forum for this site (messages, etc.) Booksellers lists a few places where you might be able to buy JDC books Chat Room is just that (but don't expect much activity -- chat rooms require a large membership to be effective) Books accesses the database containing details about each JDC book E-Mail sends a message to me Search to look for individual titles Join allows you to become a member (and also can display the list of all the members and their e-mail addresses) This web site is constantly under development. Please be patient when features are added and 'bugs' develop. There is a bit of Javascript that will get rid of the frame (supposing you reach a site from here and don't want the nav-bar anymore), but Microsoft will not allow this when going to another domain -- that domain has to eliminate the frame itself. But if you want to try it anyway, click here (it will at least remove the frame if the main page is within this site; to restore click this). If you want a non-frames version, remove the frame now and use the following links: Enough chatter! Why not go to the interesting stuff? Search for a title: The Books.
